PORTLAND- The Maine Mammoths (0-1) host the Carolina Cobras (0-1) in a winless battle. Kickoff for this game is at 7:00 pm (ET) as both teams lost last week and are looking to bounce back and get their first victory. One team will go home with a victory, while the other continues to stay winless. The stage is set, as the Mammoths could win their first game in team history at home and improve to (1-1) however, this Mammoths team will have to face Billy Back and an explosive Carolina offense that only lost to the defending champs by three points.
The Mammoths started last week’s game strong, scoring not only on their first drive but on the first play of the drive. Quarterback Jonathan Bane’s first-ever pass as the Mammoths quarterback became a touchdown pass to wide receiver Devin Wilson. However, the game began to fall apart from there. Costly turnovers, set the Mammoths back deep in the second half and the finished the game with a 24-51 loss.
Defensively, the Mammoths have a lot of talent, with a few guys who played with the Spokane Empire of the Indoor Football League. Week one is now over and these players have the first week jitters out of their system. The defensive unit will try to stop the Cobras high-powered offense by forcing turnovers and forcing the Cobras to have costly penalties. The Sharks defense managed to shut down McCullum forcing two interceptions and five forced fumbles. If the Mammoths can create that much pressure on defense and keep the Cobras off the boards, then it is no question the Mammoths offense can thrive and bust the game wide open for Maine’s first home opener.
Saturday's game will be shown on YouTube Live and will be posted on the team’s social media pages. That will provide all the information on how to watch the game live on your phone or your computer.
The Mammoths are away next week, facing the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks on Saturday April 21, 2018 at 7:00 pm (ET) at PPL Center in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
