DeShawn Byrd Returns to the Mammoths

Skilled Offensive Lineman Lands in Maine

PORTLAND- Offensive Lineman DeShawn Byrd (6’5,320) signs with the Maine Mammoths for his fifth season of arena football, his second with the Mammoths.

Byrd played with the Mammoths last year and helped them to an impressive 6-1 finish during the last two months of the season. Overall, the Mammoths finished with a 7-8 record, just missing the playoffs by one game. The Mammoths established a great passing game throughout the season and improved on rushing the ball, thanks to Byrd’s help on the line. During the 2017 season, he played for the Arizona Rattlers in the Indoor Football League (IFL). That year, they won the United Bowl. Byrd played for the Cedar Rapids Titans in 2016 and had a big part in helping them go 12-4. In his rookie season, Byrd played with the newly-developed Billings Wolves. They would eventually finish the season with a 5-9 record.

Byrd attended Grand Rapids Community College. During his time at Grand Rapids, he earned MFC East All-Region and First Team All-MFC Honors. After two years at Grand Rapids Community College, Byrd transferred to Tennessee State and was a starter on the offensive line for two years.

Byrd is a native of Dayton, OH and attended Trotwood-Madison High School in Trentwood, OH. He received varsity letters in track and field, and on multiple occasions, helped lead his team to regionals.
