WORCESTER- The Maine Mammoths (0-1) travelled to Worcester, MA to face the Massachusetts Pirates (1-0) in the season opener, in which the Mammoths lost 24-51. Both teams entered their first game in team history.

The Mammoths had a historic start, scoring a touchdown on not only the first-ever drive in team history, but the first-ever pass in team history. The touchdown came from a five yard pass from quarterback Jonathan Bane to wide receiver Devin Wilson, giving the Mammoths a quick lead and early momentum. That lead, however, didn’t last long because the Pirates, led by Quarterback Sean Brackett kept scoring to send the game into halftime with a 12-26 score.

Later in the game, the Mammoths and Pirates exchanged touchdowns, including a Mammoths touchdown pass thrown from quarterback Jonathan Bane to again, wide receiver Devin Wilson however, Maine only got as close as eight points from tying the game.

Several costly turnovers allowed the Pirates to pull away, get a victory, and send the Mammoths back to Portland, ME with a 27-point loss and the rest is history.
