ALLENTOWN, PA- The Maine Mammoths (1-2) faced the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks (0-2) in a battle of the winless in a Week Three head-to-head matchup. The Mammoths recently fought a close fight against the Carolina Cobras and the Steelhawks lost to the Columbus Lions 50-18.

The Mammoths quickly got things going on defense, allowing just a field goal to start the game. The Mammoths would take advantage of that field goal by scoring a touchdown to put the score at 6-3. The Steelhawks weren’t stopping there as they threw it for a 20 yard touchdown, making the score 10-6. The quarter would end right there.

Starting the second quarter, the Mammoths can’t seem to find any success, missing a field goal. The Steelhawks took over at their own nine yard line. Empty possessions multiple times for both teams ticks the clock down to almost nothing left in the half. The Mammoths took control of the ball and scored a touchdown on a one yard rush with 31 seconds left in the half. The score at the end of the first half is 12-10 in the Maine Mammoths favor.

To start the second half, the Mammoths received the ball and instantly took control, as they returned it for a 21 yard return. The Mammoths would later score in the drive, only to miss the extra point. The game is an eight point lead for the Mammoths at 18-10. The Steelhawks scored a touchdown on their next drive, putting the score at 18-17 with Maine still hanging on. Just over halfway through the third quarter and the Steelhawks are looking to jump ahead in this game. Quarterback Jonathan Bane throws to Edgar Poe for a gain of 30 yards, but Poe fumbled in the end zone and the Steelhawks recovered, which made it a touchback with Lehigh Valley possession. The quarter would end in an 18-17 lead for the Mammoths. Just 15 minutes to go.

Starting off the final quarter, the Mammoths quickly find Poe in the end zone for a seven yard touchdown. Another missed extra point makes it a 24-17 point game for the Mammoths. The Steelhawks throw it backwards and did not catch it, which is a fumble. Linebacker Niko Sierra returns it for a touchdown, and the PAT is no good. The score is now 30-17 with 11:47 to go in regulation. A squib kick would result in Lehigh Valley juggling the ball around, which gave Maine an opportunity to recover. The Mammoths recovered near mid-field. The Mammoths took full advantage of this moment and throws a touchdown and made the two point conversion to put the score at 36-17. That two point conversion could very well be the catch of the game, and possibly the catch of the year as he jumps over the wall, clears the wall, smacks into a steel bar, and still holds onto the ball. The Steelhawks would score a touchdown to shorten the lead to a 38-24 game as Quarterback Seth Higgins finds Kip Patton Jr. for a 25 yard touchdown. A seven yard touchdown from Bane to Poe would seal the deal and make it a 45-24 point game in the end.
